Dreamtime

So here's an indulgent kind of post- I just wanted to share a dream I had recently. It kinda freaked me out because I woke up moving- that's how intense it was. Something I don't normally experience. Anyway we'll get to that shortly. So here's the scene. I'm attending a play or something and a bunch of us are abducted and taken... somewhere. In an airborne vehicle. The next thing I remember is being in a forest with other prisoners- why are we being held? No idea. It's not good though.

Flash forward a bit and I'm in a field with three other prisoners and two captors. For some reason (gotta love dreams) the captors are asleep? And somehow I know that I have to bash them with a rock to escape. Yeah that's a little gruesome, I agree. In my defense I don't actually bash them? Well, I do, but it's like off camera. Like, one minute it needs to be done, and the next it's, um, done. Yeah. So then we book it into the woods and have to climb this hill to where a fence is- and beyond it is this great field, surrounded entirely by houses. Big, nice houses. They all seem to have huge back windows and so the light from the houses partially illuminates the field.

We're in the field now and there are scattered trees around. Here and there. The goal, I guess, is to make it to the houses and jump the fence. Once we get into the neighborhood we have more of a chance? You know how dreams are, they don't always make sense and your subconscious just goes with it? Oh and somehow we know that every house in the neighborhood is in on it- there's a reason they ring the field. They're like employees of whoever kidnapped us or whatever. Anyway  we're in the field now and it's nighttime, but helicopters are coming and their search lights are crisscrossing the field.

We start to panic a little but I tell everyone to stay low. The area off to the left is darkest and we make for that. Unfortunately the search lights find some of us and suddenly there are people behind us, on foot. Closing fast. I think two of us are taken at that point. It's super tense and I am breaking for it now- full speed. I'm coming up on the houses and the fence is right there- just a few more steps. Someone is right behind me- my fellow prisoner, or have they been taken and it's the bad guys? I do not know but I literally am feeling these last few steps, the fence is there and I leap without stopping- I grab the top of the fence and haul myself over.

I hurl myself forward, clearing the fence... and I wake up. Moving. I am actually moving forward. Which is, in hindsight, kinda funny. But man was that intense. I have weird dreams at times but nothing in a long time has felt that real.

Do you ever have dreams like that?

  1. Dreams are weird... like super weird... Some days I wish I could record my dreams and watch them again, but then I'm afraid my dreams are TOO weird to look back at again. My dream this morning involved me driving an actual car on a Mario Kart race track. My poor car was destroyed LOL

    1. They are! I would love to go back and revisit some dreams, just cause they're so trippy. But then again others I'm glad to leave behind.

  2. What a weird dream! I have super vivid dreams nearly ever night it seems and the way you described yours and how things just sort of happen or you inherently know something is so on target with how I feel about them, haha. I've only had a one or two where a movement is what woke me up, so that's always interesting to me. I'm super impressed by how coherently you've shared your dream, it actually sounds like the start to an interesting story. Sounds very intense, are all of your dreams this vivid? I feel like you could have an awesome dream journal!

    1. I know! I was surprised how intense it was. And I don't think I've ever had it where I woke up moving, or at least not like that- maybe a few times.

And yes it's amazing how dreams are like that! They can be so weird. :)

I'm actually surprised I remembered most of the whole thing. It helped that I wrote it down right when I woke up- I just knew there was a post here! I've had vivid dreams but again not usually this vivid!

  3. Hey There Gorgeous Greg and Happy Monday to you! First, I have to give some major kudos that you actually remember your entire dream in such vivid detail. Most people only reconstruct tiny snippets. I have always believed that our dreams are trying to tell us something that may already be happening in our lives or as a premonition of things to come. Some of my dreams have been really out there.(lol) I've heard that dreaming of a fence indicates that something or someone is trying to hold you or your emotions back, but the fact that you actually cleared the fence and got away, means you'll be successful with whatever may be going on to block you. I like what Jordan says about starting a dream journal, which I can just imagine would be phenomenal. To then turn it into a novel would be even better. I would definitely buy it Gorgeous Greg! Hugs...RO

    1. Hey ravishing Ro! And thanks. That's very interesting and sometimes I have to think dreams mean something too. Or are they just random neurons firing and parsing through our experiences? I don't know! Maybe both?? But I do like the idea of keeping a dream journal- mine would be pretty wild!

That's interesting too about your take on the fence and what it could mean. I love the idea that my dream is maybe trying to tell me somthing.

  5. Every once in a while I do have an intense dream like that and I wake up moving. Actually, just this morning I had a super intense dream where my daughter was missing and I was sobbing because I was imagining her dead somewhere. I woke up just as I was running out to search for her and I had to finish the dream in my head and "find" her so I could stop thinking about it.

    1. This was my first time really remembering it although I think it's happened before a few times. Just never this intense! And oh I hate dreams like that! that gets WAY too personal (perhaps reflecting our greatest fears?) and I've done that too- intentionally "finishing" a dream to set it right. :)

  6. I have vivid dreams like that too, and I actually had one almost just like yours! Like literally the only things different were the helicopters and bashing with a rock weren't in mine. Also it'd just been me who escaped for some reason in the dream.

    1. Wow. Although yeah escaping/ being captured probably isn't too rare a scenario now that I think about it. I'm glad you didn't have to bash anyone though. :)

  7. Wow an intense dream even had you moving when you woke up. I do not recall ever doing that with my dreams. Dreams never make sense and it is crazy how nothing is really happening where the eyes can see but you have different feelings on what is happening. For me that is the worse feeling. Like when you know someone is chasing you but never see them doing it. Feel scared and not in control.

    1. I know! And dreams can be so crazy- they NEVER make sense. True. I hate it when in a dream something happens and them something ELSE happens that makes no sense relative to the first thing lol. I'm like huh???

  8. Wow, that does sound intense! I rarely have dreams like that. I guess the question is, what were you doing right before going to sleep?😁

  9. That sounds super intense!! Were you totally freaked out when you woke up or did you have like and adrenaline rush? I very rarely have vivid dreams but when I do I always wake up feeling panicky like my adrenaline spiked.

    1. I think the adrenaline was pumping- I was like totally moving. Trying to get over that fence lolol.

  11. What a crazy dream! I very rarely remember more than snatches of my dreams and they're always complete craziness. There was one time when we were watching a lot of Law & Order I had a dream that was a whole episode complete with sound effects!

    1. I know! And same here. It's rare that they stick with me, and in this case I only remembered the whole thing because I was like- I GOTTA write this down!!

  12. All the time! I'm a very vivid dreamer. It was a lot worse during both of my pregnancies, and I used to keep a dream journal next to the bed. It's crazy what our subconscious minds come up with while we sleep. It sounds like you've been reading a lot of intense books, Greg! They're bleeding over into your dreams. ;)

    1. I think you right! Something's going on. :) And yeah I can only imagine what pregnancy does to dreams. Seems like that would be crazy to with hormones or whatever making things even more chaotic in dreams!

  15. That is intense. I have never remembered a dream or nightmare, so I am not sure if I have them or not, but I am really impressed with all the details you remembered from yours.

    1. Thanks, I sat down to write out what I remembered because I knew I'd never remember it all. As it is a lot of details from the beginning slipped away.

  17. Wow, that is one seriously intense dream. The only dreams I can remember feeling like I was moving when I woke up are a few I've had where I dreamed I was falling and when I woke up, I physically felt myself slamming into the mattress. It's always such a weird sensation.

  18. Whoa, this sounded like a scene from a thriller sci-fi movie!

  19. Oh, man that was freaky..but kind of cool. Now I want to read the book..so to speak! I've felt like I was falling and jump awake but not moving.

  20. Oh yeah, capture and chase dreams have factored in a few times with me. I've woken up gasping for breath and my chest burning like I've really been running. Freaky.
LOL, some things make no sense once the dream is over. You really remembered a lot of yours. :)

  21. I have some pretty crazy dreams, but it would bother me to wake up and actually be moving like in my dream.

  22. You actually remember the beginning, the middle and the end. I never remember anything but the end, very fragmented. Wonder if the Dream was trying to tell you something?!

  23. I love strange and out there dreams are, and it's so weird how sometimes in dreams you just *know* something even though you don't know how you know. This sounds like an intense one! I've had those sometimes, where I wake up with my arm reaching out or my leg trying to kick something away or something. Unfortunately I remember tons of my dreams (I say unfortunately cuz it's kind of exhausting sometimes), but that moving thing only happens with the more intense ones. But this one you had could almost be a story!

  25. WOW, that was some dream. Intense for sure. I have had a few.

One VERY vivid till this day was the dream I had of both of my parents saying goodbye. Don't know where they were going to (?? they didn't say) I assume heaven. I woke up crying and screaming. Like tears running down my face. They had my childhood dog with them and they were on opposite sides of the street. My dad was on one side (right side) and my mom on the other side (left side) the funny thing is the childhood dog was with my Dad. It was my mom's dog. I remember that I kept begging for them not to go. Please don't leave me, I kept screaming and they told me they had to and that it was time. So, I asked my childhood dog (Brandy) to watch out for them and to please be there when it was my time. It still gives me chills. I have not dreamed of either of my parents since than. Of course that doesn't stop me from thinking about them often. This was over 10 years ago and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. Before that dream I had never cried in a dream before. Very spooky.
