Sunday Post #260

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

I'm listening to the crickets chirping as I write this. I love having the window open and hearing the night sounds in late summer, feeling the cool breeze wafting in. We had a downpour last night, which prompted me to open windows as well, and listen to the falling rain. I find myself savoring the sights and sounds of summer as the season winds down, even as I look forward to fall. I find it kind of bittersweet this time of year- the end of summer is here, but even so I find myself ready for the joys of autumn.

This week I feel like I regained some reading mojo, finishing one book that had been dragging and reading another. Contagion was a quick read and I'll be reviewing it next Thursday. And I jumped right into Rogue Protocol, the next Murderbot book, and will be starting Record of a Spaceborn Few this weekend with La La in the Library, A Dance With Books and Jo's Book Blog. Should be awesome!

Movies That Suck unfortunately didn't happen this week, but I reviewed Adrift instead, and next week will be Sharknado. Yes, I have watched the infamous Sharknado and survived the experience. And it was everything I had imagined! I'll also be doing a Mystery Blogger Award tag from February (yes I'm behind) and looking for a new show to watch as I deal with the season being over for The 100.

  1. I agree, the end of summer is a bit bittersweet. However, I'm so happy about the cooler nights. I sleep so much better now.
Have a wonderful week ahead, Greg, and enjoy your weekend.

  3. I'm certainly interested in your opinion of Contagion as that is on my wishlist. I'll be reading Rogue Protocol soon as well.

    1. Contagion was awesome. Yeah it has a YA protagont but the creep and atmosphere factors are off the charts!

  5. I am always intrigued by your pictures! A few years ago I could not stop playing that Billy Idol song or watching any of his videos.

  6. I haven't watched any of the Sharknado's movies. I am watching Airplane! right now. Talk about a stupid movie!!!! I have been enjoying some fall like weather as well. It has been nice and cool in the mornings. Have a great week.

    1. Oh you are lucky. I now have Sharknado seared into my brain. :) Is it bad that I felt for the sharks? I mean, they didn't ASK to be swept up into cyclones and deposited in cities, right?

  7. Sharknado was hilarious. We saw 4&5 last week and whooboy.

The images this week are especially nice. 👍✨

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  10. So jealous you're able to have windows open. It's 90 here today, and humid of course. We're a looong way from open windows. Hope you enjoy the buddy read! I now know someone who has actually watched Sharknado. LOL Looking forward to your commentary on that one. :) Billy Idol! I remember having this cassette with Rebel Yell on it (I think the album was called Rebel Yell, too?). Lots of good music on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sadly, no open windows for us. We have had some better days, but the 90s are back next week. BOO! Way to get your reading mojo back.

  12. I have to close my windows. It's getting pretty cold. I hope you enjoy Record of a Spaceborn Few. I am not much into Sci-fi TBH. The girl with the bird cage and the one underneath fallen or crawling on the forest floor reminds me of JL Bryans Jenny Pox (The Paranormals #1 )

  13. I love having all the windows in the house open. We just had a stretch of beautiful weather, felt almost like fall! Unfortunately, it's going back to the 90s this week!

  14. LOL I was at my mother-in-law's this past week and got roped into watching the last Sharknado with her. Yeah, it was pretty much everything I imagined it to be too...and that is all I'll say about that :P Can't wait to see your review for Spaceborn Few!

  17. Yess, can't go wrong with Billy Idol! Love those images, a few certainly get me in the autumn mood and wanting to start on horror story season again

  18. YES, Billy Idol!!
I enjoy the Sharknado movies, even though their cringe factor is extremely high. I had my windows open yesterday and Friday, and I really missed it. It was warm but had a nice breeze, and I wish it could stay this way forever. Our autumn season is very rainy, which becomes depressing by week two. I prefer summer and spring showers, where the sun comes back out and warms up the earth.

I hope you have a lovely week Greg!

    1. Billy Idol is the BEST.

I love open windows, but only if it doesn't make my place super muggy. And I hear you- I need some sun after a rain, not just gloom!

      Sharknado was a definite trip!!

  20. Sorry, to my eyes just the art for Sharknado is offputting! Definitely not my sort of film!
I'm looking forward to autumn though, partly because we get to head south for a while and mostly because the change seasons, Spring and Autumn, seem to suit me better. Loved your description of listening to the rain fall

    1. No, Sharknado is not my kind of film either, although it did have some ridiculously fun moments, if that's a thing? You're not missing anything though! And I'm the same way- I love the spring and autumn- it's the temp extremes (hot or cold) tha tget me.

  21. Some really awesome pictures this week Greg!
I'm so ready for Autumn too. It's going to be so awesome.

  22. Totally agree tha the end of summer is bittersweet. I love fall but will miss summer for sure. I feel like I lost my reading mojo this week as I went down a Netflix hole of binging. Really love the pictures this post. Have a great week!

    1. It is. I'm the same way, ready for fall but I'll miss summer when it's all cold and dark. :) And ooh hope you watched something good on Netflix!

  23. I was expecting at least 3-4 more weeks of summer but it left about 3 weeks ago. We've had nothing but rain and now it's started to get cold again. We've turned on the heating in the house because we can't take the chill. Ridiculous! :P

I can't wait to see your Sharknado post. XD

Also, I will always love anything Star Wars you post. :D

  26. The evenings are so nice and cool. It makes me wish I lived in a quiet neighborhood or at the shore. Maybe one day. :) It's going to be hot this week and I hope will cool off by September but I have a feeling it will be a roller coaster of weather for the next month or more.
Glad you got your mojo for reading back. I hope you enjoyed Sharknado, it's one of my favorites I am glad you watched it. :) The last one was fantastic and I now want to binge watch the entire thing. lol

  30. I love listening to the rain! I do enjoy the cooler nights as the Summer winds down. We've had a particularly brutal one so I'm happy Fall is on the way! Love all those forest pictures, although one reminds me of that creepy girl from The Ring! Ack! That movies scared the heck out of me! Glad to hear you're getting your reading mojo back. I feel like I haven't had much time to read, but I'm starting the last Kate Daniels today and I want to read it straight through. I've been so busy this weekend that I'm just going to lay around and read today to recoup and when you love a book reading it straight through is awesome!

  31. It's still around 103 here most days. I'll be happy once it cools down to the 60's. I watched the first Sharknado and didn't bother to watch any of the other movies. lol

I love the guy standing in the forest picture. We don't have a lot of green here in Vegas. And then the beach picture makes me miss living in California but it's so expensive there now. Great pictures.

  34. I am tired of the heat but not ready to let go of summer yet as I don't want to rush winter. :) We seem to have a hit or miss fall around where I am and so sometimes it can be nice and other times it gets cold to fast and moves right into winter. :( So I am not rushing...lol.

Glad you got some reading mojo going! :) Have a great week and happy reading!

  35. The sound of rain is soothing. We use Google Home to play ocean or rain sounds when we go to bed. We may have rain next week but we'll see. Being in the east bay the rain usually is hardly there unlike up in SF. I have open arms for fall! Have a good week.

    2. Yep, yep. The catfish was good this spicy, Asian style. I have always looked forward to the fish dish at a banquet although it's usually sea bass and steamed. Catfish has a slightly different taste although I think tilapia has the most different. Yeah, go see the movie. It's highly entertaining and it'll make you laugh.

  38. It has started to cool off a bit here too so we've had the windows open and have been able to comfortably sit outside as well. And i agree with you...as much as I'm looking forward to fall, I do feel a little bittersweet about summer ending even though my life doesn't change much from the end of summer to the beginning of fall these days. Maybe it goes back to our school days when it meant fun was over and it was tine to go back to school.

  43. Hooray for getting some reading mojo back! We haven't really had any sign of fall yet down here (it's probably a month or so off, to be honest) but I'm longing for it. Summer is just so oppressively hot, and also the season right before my favorite, so I'm usually anxious for it to end by the time football season rolls around :) Hope you have a great week, Greg!

  44. Beautiful photos. It hasn't seemed like summer for about a month now. I'm glad I read the Summer Days and Summer Nights short story collection back in July, when it still felt like summer!

  49. We finally got a little bit of rain here in Oregon, we haven’t seen much since April. IT was nice to get the air cleaned out and to get some moisture, everything is so dry. I totally agree, this is a bittersweet time of year, I love the change of seasons, but I am always remiss to say goodbye to summer. Love your pictures as always. Can’t wait for your review of Sharknado.

  50. It's 90 degrees here with high humidity so it doesn't feel like the end of summer here though it did a bit more yesterday which was nice. I'm so curious to see what you think of Sharknado! 57. I do love the slow transition from summer to autumn. It's the little thing like crisper nights and having to wrap a blanket around your shoulders as you sit outside or the surprise of there being rain outside or needing to grab something to throw over a tshirt. Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons, though, warm weather is all well and good but I'd much rather it be chilly to be honest. And glad to see you've read some good books of late, and survived watching Sharknado, that one even I haven't braved.

  58. I'm sad summer is almost over because the two heatwaves we had were way too hot for me and then we mostly had grey and rainy weather. I would have loved something in between. Love the artwork as always! Now I kind of want to go watch Star Wars again.
