Cover Characteristics Airships

Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.

This week's pick- Airships

Who doesn't love airships? Majestic, sailing serenely through the air, airships are a staple of science fantasy and steampunk as well. So with Cover Characteristics officially on hiatus, I go rogue again with airships. Do you have an airship read that you enjoy?

Swords of Mars (Barsoom, #8)The Aeronaut's Windlass (The Cinder Spires, #1)The Tides of Kregen (Dray Prescot, #12) (Krozair Cycle, #1)Image result for sky pirates of callistoThe Fog Diver (The Fog Diver, #1)The Ruby Airship (The Diamond Thief)Romulus Buckle & the City of the Founders (Chronicles of the Pneumatic Zeppelin, #1)Innocent Darkness (The Aether Chronicles, #1)Agatha H and the Airship City (Girl Genius Novels, #1)

This one's not bad but not my favorite.

The Tides of Kregen (Dray Prescot, #12) (Krozair Cycle, #1)

Swords of Mars (Barsoom, #8)

This isn't how I picture fliers on Mars from the books but it's an interesting cover. Not my preferred cover for these books.

The Aeronaut's Windlass (The Cinder Spires, #1)

Image result for sky pirates of callisto

This one's got an airship, some dudes hanging out on rocks and a cool looking city or something in the background.

The Fog Diver (The Fog Diver, #1)

I like this one a lot, with the sense of action and the proximity of the other ship.

The Ruby Airship (The Diamond Thief)

An airship, a cool costume, and goggles.

Romulus Buckle & the City of the Founders (Chronicles of the Pneumatic Zeppelin, #1)

This one looks zany and just fun.

Innocent Darkness (The Aether Chronicles, #1)

More goggles.

Agatha H and the Airship City (Girl Genius Novels, #1)

This may be my second favorite (after The Fog Diver) just because there is so much stuff going on here. I feel like this cover is telling a story by itself!

  1. Well, apparently this proves that airship stories have the best covers! I love the one for Arabella of Mars, and I've seen the full image - it's a shame that the book cover itself actually cuts off part of the lower left corner.

  2. I don't think I've seen any of these covers before now, but I like some of these - particularly those with the steampunk vibe. :)

  3. Airships are definitely a steampunk staple. I love how on that one cover they're literally just boats in the sky, not even sails or propellers or anything lol. My favorites though are the Jim Butcher one, The Ruby Airship, and Romulus Buckle! Also, Romulus Buckle is a pretty awesome name lol.

  4. Oh I like these. I need to read books with air ships though. To be honest, I need to read more steampunk books but since it is a genre I'm not that familiar with I'm not sure where to start.

  5. Oh I do love a good dirigible airship! Gail Carriger's books usually have some nice ones too! I really should get back to some steampunk again! Lovely post, Greg!

  6. Innocent Darkness and Arabella of Mars are the only two covers I'd seen before and I really like both of them. I've also definitely found some books here I've got to find out more about because they look AWESOME! And I'm always on the hunt for more steampunk. While the covers aren't the greatest, I do really like the different style of the cover airships from Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding and Peacemaker by Lindsay Buroker. (Love the books, too.)
