Sunday Post #158

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

September! It's here and it feels like summer is over even though technically it's not. And it's still warm but fall is coming- cooler nights, turning leaves, and pumpkins. And pumpkin spice latte. The smell of burning leaves. Does anyone else love that?  I love the fall weather, the leaves swirling in the wind, sleeping with the windows open. I'm looking forward to it although I will miss the longer days.

Tuesday Tagline continued this week and I'm having fun sharing some of the taglines out there. The good, the bad and the bizarre! I finished a few books and have been able to mostly stay off Netflix.

Vicarious (Vicarious, #1)Truly Madly Guilty

And I'm listening to...

    1. Yeah the longer days... those are the best. Light out until almost 10... that's what I'll miss.

  2. Fall...*sigh* It's the best. I can feel it coming, too.

  3. Burning leaves??? I'm going to put you in the weird column for that one. Everyone here burns them and it's horrible *cough, cough* Love the pictures!! Have your trees turned yet??? I've got two maples giving me some red leaves already!!!

    Have a great week!!

    1. No burning leaves for you?? Although I know they can aggarvate people's sinuses so I totally get that. You're not supposed to breathe that stuff in but I can't help myself. We used to burn leaves and I loved that smell... so maybe it's a nostalgia thing? Anyway no, not really turning here yet, although I've seen a FEW trees srart to turn yellow...

  4. I do like the crispness of fall and the cooler weather. I wish it wouldn't get dark so early, though. I always enjoy the artwork you share.

    1. I agree! I LOVE that smell. It's not healthy they say but if I smell burning leaves I am breathing in that scent lol.

  6. I don't mind the smelling of burning when it's in my yard but get bothered by our neighbors...

    1. Ha ha that makes sense. I love a campfire smell too but if too many of the neighbors are doing it sometimes the smell will get in the house and then you can't get it out!

  7. We've got a long way to go till it feels like Fall - especially in the daytime but it's started to get a little cooler at night which is exciting! I like the smell of burning leaves when it's just a hint in the air. It definitely means it's fall! Have a great week!

    1. Yeah I imagine you're still pretty hot down there... we've actually had a lot of humidity but the last three days have been gorgeous, with nice temps but no humidity. It's been awesome. And I agree- burning leaves means fall!

  8. Oh, I'll have to check out your review of Rolling in the Deep! Those were some nasty mermaids indeed!

You always have the most interesting links, it must take you ages to out your posts together.

It's cooled off a little bit here but it's not quite fall weather yet. Soon! Though, then comes winter. *shudder* But changing leaves, cooler weather, sweaters and hoodies, hot cocoa and plain apple cider; yeah, I'm ready. :)

    1. Rolling in the Deep was great! Loved it- and I wanr more scary merfolk stories but for some reason have trouble finding them. This one fit the bill!

Thanks about the links! It does take time sometimes, although lately I have the template ready to go and when I come across a video or something I like I just slot it in. I usually add something or two every day throughout the week, whereas in the old days (ha ha) I used to do it all at once- which sucked. :) I may get carried away lately...

I agree with all those things- fall is lovely. Except for the winter part!

      Delete
  9. I don't get changing leaves here. It's just summer and a-little-colder summer. Lol. But I don't have heat in my apartment, so I want it to stay hot. I actually like the shorter days though since I like the night and the darkness :-D

Ooh, I really like that pulp cover. You should bookmark it for when we have cards as a cover topic! I know that's coming up at some point, but things seem to be rather sporadic with that meme at the moment.

I'm liking this "Supposed to Be" song!

    1. Summer and cooler summer doesn't sound bad. :) As much as I bitch about the heat and love fall, there's something to be said for it being nice year round. And yeah you are a night person aren't you? I am too although I do like the longer days of summer...

That is a nice cover isn't it? I'm not sure what's going on with CC, I'm kinda doing my own when I don't like the scheduled one. and there's a lot of those coming up. :)

Icon for Hire's a great band, i like them a lot.

  10. Fall and I have a love-hate relationship. Because yes, I like the pretty things, and the delightfulness of the cooler nights and all that jazz... but it is so depressing because it means that summer is over and snow will be arriving and snow makes me sad.

And I don't know when things changed around here but I LIKE IT. A lot. I am also excited that you're reading Vicarious! I need to know if I should add it to my wishlist haha. Also, I wish that Chinese architecture and the beach met up more often- I kind of love it!

    1. I'm the same way- give me the crisp air, the colors and all the fun fall stuff, but snow... no. I need more summer.

Thanks, I tweaked a bit (it was about time) and I like it a lot better. Should have done it sooner. :) And I know about Vicarious- finally right?? I'm reading it now so I'll let you know soon. And I love that pic...

  11. I loved Julia Stiles in the first two Bourne movies and hoped they'd get together.... I haven't seen the latest though!

It's warm here already so I suspect our short winter will become summer with spring getting very little say in the matter.

Must read your review of the latest Moriarty as I didn't manage to get a review copy so haven't read it yet.

    1. I did too. She was a great part of those movies! I hope you get a nice spring, I like a nice easy transtion between seasons lol but yeah it doesn't always happen that way.

I liked the latest Moriarty a lot, I've seen mixed reviews but I liked it. Not perfect but a good read, I thought.

  12. We have burn days here and the ranchers and farmers burn stuff, so the air just smells like smoke. Sometimes it's good. I love the smell of campfire though. So that music video is just for the book? Kind of cool - more creative than book trailers.

    1. I love a campfire smell. what is it with me and smoke lol? And yes I think that video is just for the - I agree bette than a trailer. I think it added something, although the actors look kinda young- I think when I read YA sometimes I age them up in my head?

  15. I love summer and the longer days especially when I work in the evening. It's nice that it isn't dark by the time I get home. I am not a fan of pumpkin spice latte but I do love pumpkin pie and apple cider.

  18. I do love fall, I just don't like that right after it comes winter and winter is my LEAST FAVORITE lol :) I like summer, but I'm done with it right now (shhh! Don't tell Michelle) because I have heat rash on my arms! So you've officially made me curious about night school - but it looks scariest than I tend to read.

Some beautiful pictures you took! I love the water, but I don't think I could handle the winters you get ad a trade off for that beauty :/

    Have a great week Greg!

    1. Same here- fall yes, winter NO! lol yeah winter's a nasty trade off for the summer beauty. Although winter is nice in it's own way, it just lasts too long. And Night school wasn't really scary- I mean, there's some tension but there's no paranormal elements so there's that.

  19. Fall is my favorite season, and in these parts, it is very short. The hot days(that are slightly cooler now, in the 80s this weekend) continue until October. The temperature will go up to 100 or above at least once or twice more.

But the evenings are cooler, and the pumpkin things are out in the shops...and that reminds me to go over to Barnes & Noble to have some of their Starbucks goodies in the cafe.

I love those pix, especially of the lake. I also enjoyed seeing that meandering mansion, just above the dungeon.

Enjoy your weekend...and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  20. I love fall, it's my favorite!!!! All of those things you said, I can't wait. This week is already cooler and I love it. It could be fall year round in my opinion.

Rolling in the Deep sounds really good - I love a mean mermaid story.

I love your Northern MI pics too - I wish we would have gotten to see more on our trip, but oh well, there is always next year! We are actually planning a pretty long northern MI trip with my brother and his family for next summer. My niece is 6 months younger than my son, so it should be fun. And I am definitely adding in the Old Mission peninsula!

    2. I love fall too, and spring- when the temps are a little cooler but we still have sunshine. I agree I could get used to fall year round. :) Rolling in the Deep was fun, and short- a nice summer read.

I didn't get up north nearly as much as I would have liked this year. And yes the Old Mission peninsula is great- and you can do it in a day (or even less). I recommend the Bad Dog Deli for lunch :) they have good sandwiches, and the Peninsula MArket next door is nice. And if you drive to the tip of the peninsula there's a nice park and lighthouse, and depending on water level you can walk WAY out.

Thank you, I like how it looks a lot better!

  21. Fall is really my favorite time of year. I can't wait for all things pumpkin. The weather is weird around here since we are suppose to get a tropical storm of some sort but no one has an answer to what it's suppose to actually do. Yesterday we noticed at 7 it was getting dark. The long nights are almost over. I actually love when it gets dark early. Gets me in a scary movie mood and then the holidays are coming! YAY! ;)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  23. I am loving the cooler temps already. Though I think we are supposed to be back up in the 90s later this week! Love Fall weather :)
Night School looks like an excellent read, I'll have to check it out.
Yay for Winds of Winter!!! Is there a release date yet? My husband and I binged the series this month on HBOgo and I'm getting ready to start reading. Not sure why I waited so long on this one!

    1. Yeah cooler is better. :) We're still warm here though too, but at least the humidity has died down some. I liked Night School. It was good, much better than I expected. If it keeps up I'll read all 5 books.

I hope you like Game of Thrones. I think the books are great, and no there is no for Winds of Winter yet, but there are 7 or so chapters he's released and I liked finding the audio narrations of them.

  25. It's a lovely day out--well, the sun isn't out yet, but it's nice and cool. I love the fall. It's my favorite season. I like to pretend my birthday is in fall even though technically it still falls under summer. Close enough though. :-)

Good for you staying away from Netflix. I haven't been so good. Being off a couple days from work sick, didn't help. I am watching The first season of The Messengers right now. It's not too original, to be honest, and is only okay. But I keep watching it . . . Rolling in the Deep sounds a bit different. Nasty mermaids, huh? I'll have to check that one out.

I hope you have a great week, Greg!

    1. Yeah, close enough. :) It's your birthday, you get to decide lol. I have been much better about Netflix, but honestly it's because I'm between shows rather than any restraint on my part. Rolling in the Deep is a novella so it's short, but man- nasty doesn't even begin to cover these mermaids!

  37. Yes... I'm with you Greg in loving the smell of burning leaves. Though it's a bit soon for that - having said that, I can't quite believe that we have rose bushes laden with hips and the berries seem to be very early this year. We are supposed to be having another warm spell, which would be fabulous - any kind of Indian summer that shortens the long winter we endure and I loathe more every year has to be a winner! As ever, loved your art examples and the Night School video is intriguing - this is a series I haven't encountered and it looks like I should. Have a great week and many thanks for swinging by my post.
