Sunday Post #140

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This has been a nice week for the most part. I didn't do a ton of reading. Black Sails is now available on Amazon and I've been binging it all week. So... yeah that's a chunk of time. It started off a bit iffy but it's nice to be back in that world- there isn't really another show like it. I did see some news about returning shows also this week and I included some of that below.

Last week I talked about genre and whether blogging changes how you read. This week I'll be talking about book spoilers on Tuesday and reviewing Silicon Dawn on Thursday. And hopefully reading!

  1. Are the Tad Williams books good? I have been loving your diussion topics and am looking forward to next week's. I had two awful spoils that I can vent about! Our weather looks like it is going to stay springlike, so I am chancing shutting off the boiler today. Yay! I love saving money. Have a wonderful week.

    1. Hey I'm here now. :) Crazy day... I think those books are good but they're chunksters, I mean really long. I don't think I'd re- read them for that but he is writing new ones in the same world, so I'll be getting those. :) And I love those new covers!

Thanks, I'm glad you're liking the discussion posts. I know what you mean about spoilers, I'll be anxious to see your thoughts on Tuesday. :)

  2. Maisie Williams is always fun to watch off set. I like the new Tad Williams covers. I'll admit that the older ones turned me off as a kid but I still own two and read half of... I want to say it was 'The War of the Flowers'... but never finished. I think I was too young for it so maybe I will try again some day.
    Have a great week! :)

    1. Bloodline is good although it's a bit slow moving at times. Still I highly recommend it- and can't wait for S2!

  4. *sigh* I FINALLY finished Camp Nano so I have to catch up with your blog Greg! Jadah's first book signing video was super cute!. I have that ARC and now I want to get to it so badly :) Loved the Star Wars sectional views! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Oh, I love Bloodline...and I'm so excited to start watching Season II. Of course, the way I binge-watch, it will be done before I know it, and I'll be waiting again...LOL.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your week.

  6. Your pulp covers are awesome, Greg! Thanks for sharing :)
It looks like you got some good books too, even if you're busy watching shows instead of reading these days ;)
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    1. Thanx Lexxie! Yes TV has seriously detracted from my reading time! But I did slip a bit of reading in lol. Hope your week is good.

  7. That's an interesting question about whether blogging changes how you read. I think it probably does, though I think my old book club changed how I read much more than blogging has...maybe.

I'm excited for Season 2 of humans! :D Not so excited for season 2 of Bloodlines - I liked the first one but felt it got a bit predictable at the end. Hopefully S2 will be good though :)

  8. Yesss season 2 of Humans, I loved Humans. Oooh those Tad Williams covers are really nice - though I only ever read part of the first book of that series for some reason. Might have to dive in...have a great week :)

  9. I've heard about Sleeping Giants. It doesn't seem like my kind of book, but it's a cool premise.

I skimmed that bodyhacking article, but I gotta say, I still think the RFID chip thing is kinda freaky. Like, it's able to affect outside technology, like a phone. Something like an IUD affects the biological processes, the same way any medication does.

Anyway, the book signing video was fun, and the two different versions of the pulp cover are cool :-)

    1. I just finished it, it was okay. I liked the premise but it got less interesting to me as I got farther in- kinda disappointing. I've seen a lot of rave reviews tho so someone is liking it. :)

That was an interesting article, I agree about the chip. I didn't realize that was such a thing. No thanks! lol

I like Jadah's videos, I haven't read her book but maybe one of these days...

  10. I like the look of the cover for Sleeping Giants. how is it?

    1. I just finished it and it's pretty good, I loved the premise but I got a little disappointed towards the end. The explanation was a little iffy for me, and it bogged down just a bit in the middle. I'd say probably a three star read for me, although I've seen other bloggers who have been more enthusiastic about it.

  11. Maisey Williams is so freaking adorable!!! Mannnnn... If only we didn't ban GRRM from our household, I'd probably really love that show (I'm sure I've ranted to you before on his writing ADD)!!! I read his books back when they came out though. Good sh*! :D

Stay warm!!!! Stupid spring!!! Btw, let me know if you go to BookCon!! I heard BEA is back in NY next year (I'm not sure, tho)

    1. Isn't she though? And you know, you're not missing that much- I mean the show can be okay but sometimes it sucks too. It's not all that and a bag of chips. And yeah I know what you mean about Martin- I've cut him a lot of slack but come on, it's been YEARS... my patience is pretty exhausted!

I'd love to go to Bookcon but I don't think it's going to work out. Shame cause it's so close. Look forward to hearing about it though- make sure you fill us in. :) If it is Chicago next year I'll go...

  12. I'm bummed that the Hans Jenssen link is down. I wanted to check out those illustrations. :( Netflix is the devil! LOL We don't have cable or satellite, so unless there's an apocalypse that knocks out the internet then I really don't want to know how I'd handle not having it. I have a feeling it wouldn't be pretty. :D

    1. Oh sh%t I better check the link. Thanks for letting me know. There's some neat stuff there...

  13. It sounds like a really good week, Greg:). I love those pulp book covers - one of them is really daring. As for the Tad Williams, I used to be a big fan and my favourite series was Otherland, though I did feel he did have some pacing issues at times. I LOVE Smoking Off the Rooftop... Have a fab week and let's hope the weather improves!

    1. Yeah I thought that cover was a little risque as well. And I was trying to figure out if they were the same book, but I guess not. I've only read M, S & T by Williams and liked it- years ago- he's writing new ones in that world so I'll probably check those out.

  14. I was hoping Black Sails would come out on Netflix or Hulu so I can see if I would like it, I heard such mixed thing about it and also with you talking about it I kind of wish I stayed to watch.

Love those covers, old covers a just so awesome!

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

    1. I wish it would too- Netflix would be great. A lot more people could see it that way. I had to buy the episodes at amazon and that sucked, but I was hooked. :) It's a good show, but a little talky at times. For a pirate show I think it needs more action. I just finished S3 and thought it was a little slow at times but at the end it got crazy! I wish it was more like that- all the time.

  15. Binge watching always ends up cutting into my reading time, too. I haven't tried Black Sails yet. I haven't been overly enthused this season with The 100 and I'm already two episodes behind.

Hope you have a great week!

    My Sunday post is here.

    1. Yeah The 100 is hit or miss for sure. I'm liking it on some levels and others, not so much. Certainly not what I expected.

I like those Tad Williams covers too. I've only read a short story by him before, but I'm tempted to try out his other stuff.

  32. Oh the spoilers...I'm dealing with a Game of Thrones spoiler issue right now. -_- And I love the cross sections of the SW places! The detail that goes into Star Wars is so much fun.

    1. Spoilers can be so irritating. I struggle with them because sometimes I seek them out (like with Captain America or star Wars- yes I wanted to know about the movies beforehand) but book spoilers- not so much. I liked the cross sections at the site- the Coruscant one in particular I thought was cool. I need more Coruscant!

      Delete
  33. As usual, I love all the illustrations you share ♥ The cross-sectional views of Star Wars locations are really neat! I need to get on board with Black Sails but I don't have Amazon TV...I might need to consider it! Have a wonderful week Greg :D

    1. Black Sails is tough because you almost have to buy the episodes at Amazon if you don't have starz- it's not on Netflix or whatever, which is really irritating. It's too bad because it's a great show (I mean, pirates!!) but I don't think it's well known because a lot of people can't see it easily.
