Cover Characteristics #18 Hands

Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.

This week's pick- Hands

This week's category is a bit different - there's no shortage of covers with hands but the question is how prominent should they be? I don't think it really matters, the main thing for me was did the cover look interesting? So... here are my picks for Hands. A few of these came to mind right off the bat, and the rest took a little searching. Which one is your favorite?

Winterspell (Winterspell, #1)Across a Star-Swept Sea (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #2)Yes PleaseTwilight (Twilight, #1)Amaryllis in BlueberryThe Incident on the BridgeEntangled

A helping hand is a good thing.

Winterspell (Winterspell, #1)

I know this one has been used but I kinda needed it for Hands- and it's a kickass cover.

Across a Star-Swept Sea (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #2)

I think this is a beautiful cover- the stars in the sky and the lights in the surf. One of my favorites.

Yes Please

I've always liked Amy Poehler and I bet this is a fun book.

Hey what's happening down there on the beach?

More hands. I kinda like this one...

Wow, this one is old.

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

A well known cover and one that came to mind when I saw the topic.

Amaryllis in Blueberry

This one is nice and I like the blue.

Entangled

The red hair falling across her face and hand, the red fingernail, even the title font- it all works for me.

The Incident on the Bridge

I like everything about this cover. The bridge, the purplish tint to the clouds, the ripples in the water (and the way the water distorts the letters of the title).

This one is my fave. Sometimes love bites back. How can you go wrong with that?

  1. Winterspell is my favorite. Twilight started a movement that became overused on a lot of covers

  5. I like the Entangled cover the best. I agree about all that red. It's very striking and the way her hand is positioned really tells a story as well. Of course the first book I thought of when I saw the topic was hands is Twilight so I'm glad to see it on the list!

  7. I love how you found book in which the hands weren't the biggest thing, but your attention is still drawn to them, like Across a Star Swept Sea. That one is my favorite, and my eye it drawn to the hand. And the Winterspell cover is a pretty one. Home is the Sailor seems pretty intense though. I mean, did he jump out of his car as it was falling over the cliff?! And of course I like, well, all the ones that have red in them lol. I think I've seen the Twilight so much though that I don't even know how I feel about it anymore.

    1. Thanks! Across A Star Swept Sea- love that one! That was very nearly my favorite as well. I had several I really liked this week. In fact it might be my favorite depending on when I look at them... LOL. Keep changing my mind.

Winterspell is great, and Entangled I like a lot too. And Home is the Sailor- I know! I wondered the same thing about the car... :)

  16. Good point lots of covers have hands on them in one way or another. I like how the covers you picked with full bodies on them, still has some focus on the hands in some way. I always have liked the Twilight cover, it's so striking and simple with only those pale hands and the red apple. Amaryllis in Blueberry is also a pretty cover with all the blue and the flowers. And the cover for Yes Please brings an original focus to the hand, by not having is as close-up, but by the hand pointing in the air. Great picks! There are so many pretty covers out there and I always enjoy posts like these about covers!
