Sunday Post #94

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week flew by. Summetime is here and I hope to do some more Bookstore Spotlights this year. And I just realized that June is two year- how I lost track of that I don't know, but looking through my archives reminded me. It's been a fun two years, and I'm looking forward to another one. I love sharing books and connecting with fellow readers, and have made some great friends I've never actually met. The book blogging community is special, and the Sunday Post is great place to visit every week.

I picked up a new cozy this week, based on the strength of one I just read, and am loving it. This author is becoming a go- to for me, and my thoughts on this one will be up on Thursday.

A Killer Plot (A Books by the Bay Mystery #1)

Last week I reviewed A School for Unusual Girls- that can be found here. I also reviewed Tarzan and the Forbidden City (a fun read!), and my thoughts on Tomorrowland the movie. Let me know in the comments what you think.

It's a beautiful morning on Saturday as I write this- not a cloud in the sky and a nice cool breeze. Everything is still and quiet- and I've got some books to read. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

BOOKISH NEWS: Loreen Niewenhuis has released her latest book- A 1,000 Mile Great Lakes Island Adventure- t o indie bookstores a month ahead of amazon. She is on a book tour of Michigan through the summer and will be in IL too. Check out her blog post here to see pics of her stops in Traverse City and Brillaint Books (and you can see my Bookstore Spotlight of Brilliant here). I need to get this book- love the Great Lakes islands.

Third book in Great Lakes Adventure Series

  3. Deadfall looks good, but some of the 'old school' type mystery novels you've shared look kinda intriguing as well. Of course the covers could be deceptive...

Just as summer's finally arrived there, winter is now here with us in Australia. I'm wearing long sleeves and may even need to succumb to a coat (in my part of the world!).

    1. Deasfall should be interesting, the previous one was written in 2nd person (as is this) and that controversy, not everyone liked that. I'm curious how the new one reads.

I remember in Feb being wishing for the warm weather- now it's here and the AC is on! Hope you don't cool down much!

  7. I only read cozy mysteries occasionally but I love the covers of them and especially when they have a bookish theme like a couple of the above ones seem to have.

  15. Happy BlogBirthday! I honestly love all my blogging community friends that I never meet than most of the real friends I have :)

Time Salvager and Deadfall both look very interesting, looking forward to seeing what you think.

I HATE that they are remaking that movie and every movie. I'm starting to believe they don't think they hold up to the younger crowd. Well the young crowd obviously doesn't have good taste lol. I wish they would make more original stories for the young kids and leave the classics alone.

Have an amazing week, Greg! Happy Reading!!!

    1. I know, I'm so over the remakes. And they almost always suck too! It'd be one thing if they were good, but nooo... :) LOL about the young crowd. I watched Point break and they can remake it all they want, that movie is a trip. :)

I think Time Slavager looks good too, love that cover.

I know what you mean about friends, I have good friends but we're all dispersed, and I talk now about books with blogge friends way more than I do my real life friends...

  19. I attended ConQuesT on Memorial Day weekend, Greg and George R.R. Martin was one of the guests of honor. He read that Sansa chapter during one of the sessions. Her arc is quite different in the book. It was nice to see that she has learned to "play the game."

    Have a great week.

  25. I'll have to check out some of those cozy mystery series you've featured. I tend to prefer historical cozy mysteries (like Rhys Bowen's Lady Georgiana books) over the contemporary ones.

I am not a fan of the new storyline for Sansa on Game of Thrones. I haven't read all of the books but I was aware that in The Winds of Winter she is still at the Eyrie pretending to be Alayne instead of in the horrible predicament she's in on the show.

    1. I do too, my preference for historical mysteries. I generally don't read contemporary mysteries, so it surprised me that I liked these cozys so much. I think this author just writes stuff I like. :) I'll kinda stick with her and maybe try some others, but historicals are more my thing in general terms.

I'm not a fan of th show much at all, these days. Unfortunately. I do like Sansa's plotline in the book- even though I hate Littlefinger, she's relatively safe there and has the time to learn the game. I get that the times are rough, but after a while I'm sick of all the bad things happening. :) She needs a break! And that sample chapter was a hoot, I like the obscure characters like Myranda Royce and others. It's those little angles I enjoy! :)

  29. I adored Anna Carey's Eve trilogy, but haven't had the time to look into the Blackbird books, so I will he looking forward to your thoughts on Deadfall. They have been crazy lately with remakes of movies that shouldn't be touched, like Big Trouble, Poltergeist, and The Craft. Ugh. I am off to look at your review of A School for Unusual Girls. Have a fab week. :D (and thanks for the pep talk on my blog, I needed it)

Nooooo!! They cannot remake Big Trouble in Little China!! This is one of our favorites! It is a weird story and cheesy effects but I still don't want a remake! I saw James Hong (Lo Pan) last year at Wizard Con and he was hilarious! I'm getting really mad at all this remakes!!

    Have a great week!
