Sunday Post #50

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

This week was a pretty good week, summer is officially here and I even got to read once or twice. The World Cup is in full swing and our teams are doing well so far- the U.S. got off to a good start and France had a good day yesterday. My youngest daughter has decided she's rooting for France so now we're following them as well. Viva la France! :)

COYER starts today and should be a lot of fun! Check out Michelle's starter post here for details, as well as info about the readathons and Twitter fun and giveaways. Big shout out to Michelle at Because Reading Is Better Than Real Life and Berls at Fantasy Is More Fun

Thanks to everyone who stopped by last week and commented on my re-posts. It's been fun and I still have a few older reviews to share, so I'm going to post a few every once in a while. Someone suggested that I do that semi- regularly and I liked that idea! I'll post a couple this week along with everything else going on.

Happy first day of summer!

NEW ARRIVALS

Legacy of the Clockwork Key (The Secret Order, #1) Perry's Killer Playlist (Perry & Gobi, #2)

  AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE

Michelle at In Libris Veritas is celebrating her blogoversary with some fun stuff- go check out her Summer Solstice celebration. She's got giveaways and lots of author features as well.

George RR Martin was at ConCarolinas and read from the upcoming World of Ice and Fire book. The excerpt he read is a history of the Westerlands. Quite interesting.

Also quite good- a GRRM Q&A from ConCarolinas over at Stacey Simms blog. Check it out! The big takeaway for me- Martin says there will be more flashbacks to Robert's Rebellion in the next two books, and by the end of the series we'll know everything that happened there. That could be interesting... And here's an interview with Martin where he discusses the Season 4 finale...

World Cup time! The U.S. had a big win last week and here are U.S. fans going crazy at Copacabana beach in Brazil.

  2. I like that you include posts from other blogs, and the links, your readers may find interesting. I have been debating on doing a Sunday weekly wrap up feature for awhile now, the Sunday Post looks easily doable.

  3. Just my .02 that I also like that you include links to other blogs around the blogosphere. It's always fun to read your Sunday Post and see what's up. Let us know your opinion on the Through the Door series. I have been wondering about this for myself. Have a great week!

  4. I'm really glad you're enjoying the first week of summer. I'm also happy to see the U.S. team in the competition. Bosnia lost last night and therefore are going back home, but still they did great job. Great post, Greg :)

  5. I'm going to have to check out your discussion for GoT later on today (I'm about to go to bed lol) but it looks like you had a good week and seems like you'll be having another one next week.

  6. Yay for the World Cup! Unfortunately do to the time zones some of the games start in the middle of the night here in Finland, so I haven't been able to watch all. I haven't decided which team I am cheering for yet (probably Netherlands because that is the Northernmost European team there now) but at least Spain, the team I never want to win, is out :D
    Have a good Sunday!

    1. You also! I saw Spain get ousted, so much for them eh? Should be fun to see where it goes, I haven't been able to watch as many games as I'd like but luckily I did get to see the U.S. play a bit, and France too. Going to be a fun few weeks yet...

    1. I think so too, I was actually looking at that one way last summer and never read it- now the next two are out and it seems like good time to read them. :)

  8. Finally another blogger who watches the World Cup, of course I'm rooting for the Netherlands ;) But the US has a strong team too.

      Thanks for coming by Catherine!

  11. So very glad you are going to join us this year with COYER, I am so excited to start it myself, I always do really good with the read and reviews that I seem to lack every other month :)

I have to check out your Game of Throne posts and see what you thought about the finale. Plus I thought I was signed up to get email from your blog so I will go do that now to.

Have a great week Greg! Enjoy your new reads :)

    1. I think it will be fun, maybe it will help me keep my reading on track LOL. Thanks for signing up! I have been talking a lot of GoT lately, I probably should move on to something else at some point but it's been fun. Hope you enjoy the posts...

  12. I've been watching GoT but I only read the first book. I'll check out your post. Good luck with COYER and have a great week!!

  13. Great idea to look back at older posts...I found a couple of mine that I included in a new post...as a look back. They weren't reviews, but blogs about life and tidbits.

Thanks for visiting my blog and enjoy your week.

  14. We've been enjoying the World Cup, too. The Germany v. Ghana game yesterday was a great game. I hope the U.S. plays well tonight.

I'm glad you're having nice weather and enjoying your summer. Have a great reading week!

  15. This past week was cooler and less humid so I was happy. I'm not a big fan of summer, I prefer spring.

I love the updates I get here on comics and their movies, I always look forward to them.

Have a good reading week. :)

  16. I'm excited about COYER as between some overenthusiastic NetGalley requesting and the usual stream of books has got me swimming in books over here! We're watching a lot of World Cup! I like it because I can read and check in with the score periodically and rewind if I miss anything good. Look forward to your COYER and GoT posts!

  17. COYER challenge is one I should participate in, but know I will be distracted by the new grand baby! Soccer is being watched over here too. Have a great week.

  18. Yay summer! I wish it would stop raining for me though, haha.
France is usually a good team to cheer for! I think this year my sisters and I are rooting for Germany and Netherlands (:

  19. I should sign up for the COYER challenge. I have so many books on my Kindle that I haven't read yet or have forgotten about (like A Clash of Kings which I hope to finally get around to reading this year).

    1. This is my first time with COYER, and to be honest I was attracted to the idea that you can basically read anything. Keps it simple for me!

  20. I'd love to do COYER but will have to be next year, I'm too disorganised and out of routine waiting for first grandchild to arrive lol. We're all football fans here and enjoying the world cup games even though Australia is out. My mad keen 20 year old soccer player is tipping France as a long shot to get through. Have a great week and happy reading ... I like the sound of Through the Door series

  21. WOW, the covers of the books you are presenting are beautiful. I could look at them all day ;)

  22. I'm not much of a football fan so I don't much care who wins , though it's a shame Australia is out of the running already.

    Keep calm and read!

    1. Yeah that is a shame about Australia...I actually like football better tham American football, and it's catching on more here which is nice. Thank you for stopping and have a great reading week!

  23. COYER sounds like a challenge I should join - my kindle is getting out of control! I really like the links you include to other blog posts, too. Have a great week :-)

  24. I am not a huge footall fan and I only ever start watching the world cup when England get to the semis, but seeing that England is out already, I won't be watching it this year.

Thanks for the link to the Avengers 2 stuff. I am super excited about that movie, so those little clips make the wait a bit more bearable. Speaking of MCU, I am not sure what I think of Paul Rudd as Antman, but mind you I wasn't too sure about Ruffolo as Banner, but now I think he's perfect.

    Have a fantastic week Greg.

  25. I enjoyed your Game of Thrones finale discussion post! I can't believe the show is over and we have to wait!

The Legacy of The Clockwork Key sounds good! The title seems somewhat like steampunk Nancy Drew. :)

  26. Sounds like a good week for you! I hope this one is good too.

  27. Now that England is out of the World Cup, I'll be shouting for the U.S. as well. And France is not doing too bad I think . Thanks for the great links, I've just spend ages looking through them - all so interesting. And George RR Martin is a real character, isn't he.

  28. I enjoyed your post, Greg! We're not following the World Cup very much, but I'm glad to hear the US is still in the running. [Actually, my daughter 'Robin' is following the World Cup -- the Quidditch World Cup. Rowling is doing posts on Pottermore, writing as Ginny Potter, who is now the Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet. ;-) ]

  30. It's tough to balance watching the World Cup and reading on top of everything else! I hope you find some time for both this week. :)

  31. Happy summer, Greg! I live close to the US-Mex border, so even though I don't follow the games, I heard a lot of tooting and car-horn blowing and cheering in my neighborhood one day, so I know there are a lot of viewers in the community.

  32. Glad to hear you had a good week and that you're enjoying the World Cup. Hope you're enoying Emilie and the Sky World, and that you enjoy your new books when you get to them and that you have a great week! (That was a lot of ands, sorry about that).

  33. When you were talking about reposts I thought I would go through goodreads and look at some book discussions I did on there and copy them onto my blog for some old book reviews. Well... since they are in discussion form there was nothing I could repost. Such a bummer.

  34. Australia sort of sucked at the soccer so I've switched my allegiance to tennis (temporarily). Nick Kyrgios rocks for beating Nadel.
