Sunday Post #362

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

So this week the new Blogger changes took effect on my blog. I logged in one day and there it was- the new interface. Fun! To be honest, I don't really mind it though? Which, frankly, surprises me. Last week I talked about this a little bit and asked for suggestions on switching to Wordpress, and I appreciate all the suggestions and advice! I may still switch at some point (let's face it, I've considered it for years) but for now I think I'm okay? I was expecting new Blogger to be a disaster, and honestly I did just have an issue editing an older post, but generally I think I'm okay so far.

In other news I started season three of The Rain on Netflix and so far so good!

Here's a new HU's in the Kitchen.

The walking tours continue! This one is amazing and is Positano in Italy. Some amazing views and I love the segment at 7 minutes in when there's an enclosed area with vines overhead.

Here's a new Tokyo walking tour with subtitle commentary.

And Vietnamese Girl has a new one also.

  1. Interesting art picks this week - it's probably the most variety in a single post I've seen on your blog so far! Lime is very different! :D

    1. Thanks! It was interesting to put together- I wasn't sure how they would all flow together :)

  2. The "Ancient Valley" illustration by -jove is amazing. I love the density of the forest light filtering through the leaves... Beautiful! (You'd never catch me on a bridge that rickety, though!)

  3. I'm glad the new Blogger isn't as bad as you had expected! This way you can switch to Wordpress when and if you want, and not because Blogger sucks. LOL I hope you have a great weekend.

    1. I'm pleasantly surprised! the only issue I'm having is it seems really slow, like when I change or make edits everything crawlllss...

  4. I’ve seen everyone up in arms about new blogger but (so far) I’ve been issue free. Apart from it randomly blocking access to the sire on my one google account, but I just added access to a second account and that sorted that issue. I always debate the Wordpress switch... but I like my free little blog and I just haven’t spent enough time blogging to justify it. Especially as free Wordpress doesn’t have enough personalisation options for me.

    1. I was expecting to be one of those up in arms lol. But yeah I've been pleasantly surprised how easy it's been. I did have some editing issues *shrug* And right? I keep debating also...

  5. I just saw someone else talking about Rain, and I didn't even know what it was (*shame*). I second what Becky said about switching platforms. I tried free WP and it wasn't for me. I don't mind investing time into my blog, but I have no motivation to spend any sort of real money. I am going to continue rocking out to Howard Jones here.

    1. I've just never taken that plunge. I hear so many good things about Wordpress and I know my blog would look better, but I just don't want the hassle?

  6. I’m not crazy about the new blogger interface because it seems too busy for me. Idk, my reading list just seems so messed up. But I don’t think I will ever switch to Wordpress because a new platform seems very daunting haha! But I’m glad you haven’t been having many issues with it.

    1. I can see that. and it definitely seems slower? Everything I do seems to drag.

  7. I hope you won't have any more problems with the new Blogger. I think I talked about my own issues in my previous comment...I don't know if the Blogger people found a way to fix them for everyone since they told me what to do with my posts to prevent half of them of disappearing 😱. I had to reopen and resave all of them (using the old interface), and let me tell you, it was no fun. And what if I hadn't noticed the issue myself in time?

Good old Howard Jones! I loved his music and his hairdo 😉. The '80s were great fun.

Can you believe I never went to Positano?

    1. Thanks! I saw your tweets and honestly I was expecting to be horrified. But I feel your pain, that sucks you had to do that! I would be pissed off! I hope it's going better for you?

Positano looks amazing. I like how vertical the city is?

  8. I don’t mind the new blogger, I’ve been redoing my tags and I’ve found I can deal with it better in the new version. Time will tell I suppose.

I’m really enjoying the Rain, the first couple of minutes with the buses, my jaw dropped! I don’t want it to end!

    1. I haven't done tags yet. So far I'm okay but then I don't do complicated stuff, so maybe as I go I'll find more problems !!

Oh my gosh right? That was INTENSE!

  9. I switched back to the old Blogger for now; I know it will make me move on at some point, but I'm not ready yet!

  12. I've been on the new Blogger for a whiiiile! (Luckily they've fixed some of the more annoying quirks.)

They're still updating it from time to time - and I'm like, 'you haven't changed this in at least a decade, and now you're changing it All. The. Time.' Lol! <3

  13. Glad you survived the switch to the new Blogger. I'm still using the legacy interface...we'll see how long that lasts. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's not so bad for now and I've been problem free so far so I hope it stays that way! I don't like free wordpress so I'd need to go self hosted and I'm not sure I want the monthly financial commitment if I switch!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've never actually used Blogger myself... I found myself sticking with Wordpress because it's the first one I tried, really. Funny how we stick with what we know!

  16. I will have to check out Rain. I finished Cursed today and am watching The Originals now. I am glad you survived the Blogger switch. I hope you have a great week, Greg. Stay safe and well.

  17. I'm weirdly okay with the new Blogger interface except for one thing... I can't put text BESIDE images. It wants the pictures to be on top of or below any text, and I like to put the synopsis BESIDE the book's cover. It's a small thing, but super aggravating. I sent over my complaint, so hopefully they'll fix it soon. I've gone back to the old format for now.

Everyone keeps talking about Rain! Definitely going to give that one a go. :)

  18. Glad to hear the switch to the new Blogger interface has gone well for you, Greg. And pleased you're still enjoying your walking videos - I was there enjoying that view of Positano last year! Take care and happy reading in the coming week. 😃

  19. Wordpress is supposed to change its editor soon, too (for some bloggers it's already happened),and I' don't know how I feel about that... I tried the new editor a while back, and I didn't understand anything at all. I'm glad the blogger changes work for you.
Have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and healthy, and happy reading :)

  22. I'm glad the transition and new platform went/are better than expected! I love WordPress, but part of that is it's been my home for years and I'm very comfortable with it.

Have a great week and stay safe!

  23. I am glad that your changes were easy! That is always tough. Lol. And I need to watch Season 2 of The Rain still!

  26. I am glad blogger is working out for you better than you thought. I loved switching to wordpress, it was the right thing for me at the time and being a designer allowed me to be more creative with my design. I say stick with what you think will work best for you. If you don't want to spend the more or the hassle of switching just stay on blogger. :)

I love the images this week. The Neraland is stunning. What a story that images tells.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  27. Hi there Greg! Hope you had a great week. My week was a bit hectic, didn't do a Sunday Post. Will catch up on the blog tomorrow. My black cat Stinkie, is still not well, he as tick-bite-fever. So yea....

Love your pulp cover this week!

I've noticed this week that I struggle a bit with editing and the spacing on the new interface is blah. But will figure it out!

Have a great week, I'll see you around!

  28. I was a fan of Howard Jones in the 80’s though my favourite song of his was No one is To Blame.
Glad you aren’t finding the blog changes too overwhelming

Wishing you a great reading week

  29. I use blogger to format HTML posts for tours and blitzes. It has a few bugs but isn't bad. Glad you are adjusting!

  30. Something about the Neraland picture reminds me of the Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier. It's based on the Six Swans fairy tale.

I'm glad the new Blogger is better than you expected! Enjoy your week!

  31. Love the HU's in the Kitchen :-)
Not crazy about the new Blogger. I don't like have to flip back and forth from HTML to Compose to insert images.

  32. Love your art pics you have there. I haven't been on blogger in a few years, but I looked at the new interface and I think its just going to take time to adjust to the new changes. Its more aesthetically pleasing though. Hope you adjust quickly to it. But I highly recommend switched to self hosting WP though, I love it.

    Have a great reading week!

  33. I switched to Wordpress when the woman who designed my blog's layout photobucket (or something) expired and broke my site. I couldn't get ahold of her and just said screw it. The switch pretty easy, tbh. Happy reading!

  34. I had used the new blogger interface months ago and immediately switched back but they just switched me over again and fixed a lot of my previous issues and...I'm ok with it too.

We finished The Rain the other night. I had a few quibbles about some things but I like the way it ended.

  35. I love the images this week, especially Neraland 3 and Fairies.

When I started blogging in 2008, I used Blogger, but then started another blog, then another, on WordPress. By 2013, I was only blogging on WordPress. By then I had a lot of blogs, lol, but since then, I have cut down to six. I know some people don't like WP, but I have mostly enjoyed it. Once in a while they do strange changes, but usually we can come up with a "work around."

You could always try another blog on WordPress, as an experiment, and keep this one. I've known others to do that.

Anyway, enjoy whatever you decide to do!

  36. I was thinking of switching from Blogger to WordPress but I've been sticking with Blogger. The new Blogger isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I still prefer the old one. I guess it just takes getting used to. At one time I did try WordPress but I found Blogger easier. Hope you have a great week!

  37. Glad to hear new Blogger isn't too bad. That's always such a relief. Thanks for posting the walking tour of Positano. I love Italy and hope to go back some day. If I do get back there, Positano is on my list of places to visit.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Glad to hear you're not minding the new Blogger platform. It switched me automatically to the new one and I switched it back to the old. I guess I should try to get use to the newer one, it just seems like it takes more steps to set up a blog.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Blogger switched me over too, but I switched back to the original. 😅 I guess I have until the end of the month to get a handle on the new one. 😏

I will have to check out those walking tours! 🌎🌏🌍

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  40. I have been using it since it was available, just so I could get used to it. Honestly, it is not that different, and they have continued to make updates and changes as people have reported issues. I am staying with Blogger fo' sho'.

  41. I was impressed with how clean the kitchen was as those 3 guys were cooking! That Positano tour made me so nostalgic for Italy. Sigh.
I'm getting used to the new Blogger dashboard EXCEPT the labels. Ugh! It takes forever to put labels on a post.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good the blogger change has worked out for you. Most things like that can be sorted out eventually. I don't regret my move to Wordpress, but there are differences and good and bad things about both.

  43. Nice collection of artwork this week - I like Ancient Valley.

I had an issue today with the new blogger interface, but other than that, I haven't personally found it to be too problematic... I don't really return to old posts often, so who knows, that side of it could all be a mess but I don't dare look now. Haha! Great to hear you've gotten on well with it so far.

Happy reading and a lovely week to you.

  44. I hate the new interface, but I think I'll get used it. It's just dealing with change that's annoying (and the stupid label checklist). Can't really pick a favorite image this week ... maybe

I haven't heard about The Rain before, I will check it out!

    Have a wonderful week!

  46. Glad you like the new Blogger! I wouldn't switch either if you're comfortable with it. :)

  47. I've been having nothing but problems with the new interface. There's no spam filter that catches the spam and stops it from being posted like before. Now I have to manually go in and click each one and delete it which takes time.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I had problems, then not, now I had issues again. My post went all funky even though it looked ok.
I hope it continues being good for you!

  49. I'm still having problems getting images to go where I want them to go. I also don't like the way you have to scroll through a long list of labels to find the ones you want for a new post. I suppose I'll get used to both things eventually. At least they have stopped hiding the button to create a new post. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  50. You seriously always find THE best art, it's some kind of oddly specific talent 😂

Ohhh I have heard bits of this new Blogger business. Sounds a mess. I love WP. I am VERY glad I switched, and find it to be incredibly worth it. There are a lot of options I think, but I find Ashley's hosting to be the easiest no question. It has a couple of drawbacks (such as slightly less control), but I 100% would recommend her and her service. Like the time I saved when I switched? Incredible! There's a link to her services on my blog sidebar, if you wanted to check it out!

I am REALLY looking forward to getting to The Rain, but I am also kind of sad that it is only 6 episodes! It's like Into the Night- I got so into it and then bam, it's over!
